Psyllium is often prescribed to relieve constipation. It may also be prescribed for treatment of diarrhoea and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Psyllium is a natural soluble fibre derived from the husks of a seed grain. Allergen Free.
It absorbs liquid in the intestines and swells to form a soft, bulky stool.
The increased bulk of the stool stimulates bowel activity and triggers the urge to defecate. Psyllium has also been shown in studies to improve the ratio of HDL (ogoodo) cholesterol to LDL (obado) cholesterol in the blood. For this reason, it is sometimes prescribed as part of a program to reduce high cholesterol levels before resorting to drug therapy.
